A PERFECT BLEND OF SPACE, NATURE, AND COMMUNITY
When Paul, 33, and Charlotte, 31, made the decision to find their dream home, they knew they wanted a place that was more than just a house. It had to be a perfect fit for their young family. With their 2-year-old son, Fergus, and a much-loved Labrador, Lola, they sought a home that could offer space to grow, a vibrant community, and plenty of beautiful outdoor areas enjoy and found their perfect home at Bovis’ Liberty Place development in Hailsham, East Sussex.
Before settling into their current home, the couple had lived in a flat and, later, a three-bedroom semi-detached house in Burfield Grange another Bovis development just down the road in northern Hailsham. As Fergus grew more active and began to explore his surroundings, the couple felt it was the right time for a change.
Paul reflects: “While we were really happy at Burfield Grange we started to feel like we had outgrown the space. Our semi-detached, 3-bedroom home was lovely, but we knew we needed more room for Fergus to play and grow. We were determined to stay with Bovis because we love their developments. They offer so much green space, the homes are thoughtfully spaced apart, and everything is designed with modern family living in mind.”
In February 2025, they moved into a spacious 4-bedroom detached Aspen-style house at Liberty Place. They couldn’t be happier with their decision to stay with Bovis and upgrade to a home that offers more room for their family.
Paul shares: “We’re absolutely thrilled with the space we have here. Hailsham has a lot of new build developments, but compared to other homes we’ve seen, the Aspen is noticeably larger. The ceilings are 8 to 9 feet tall, and the rooms are incredibly spacious. It’s truly the perfect home for our young family.”
A favourite feature of the couple’s new home is Fergus’s playroom, a space they’ve converted from the original downstairs study. Paul explains: “We’ve always dreamed of having a playroom for Fergus. It’s been wonderful to know that we’ve created a special place just for him to play and be creative.”
Paul continues: “We also absolutely love the open-plan kitchen and dining area. It’s spacious enough to fit a sofa, so we can chat while one of us is cooking dinner or watching Fergus play. The extra space has allowed us to keep the living room as a more peaceful, adult-oriented area. It’s a lovely space where we can unwind after Fergus has gone to bed. The house is bright, airy, and has truly exceeded our expectations in every way.”
The couple truly appreciates their new home, which feels perfectly suited for a young family. Paul shares: “The downstairs utility room is an amazing addition. It’s ideal for laundry, muddy boots, and even washing the dog. With a young family, that extra space has been a total game-changer. The entire downstairs layout is so thoughtfully designed. It really works for us.”
Paul continues: “And the upstairs of the house is fabulous too. We enjoy, the spacious master bedroom, which comes with an en suite, and the family bathroom is a great size.”
Both Paul and Charlotte work at local community schools, so they are familiar with the value of a supportive, connected environment. Paul is a deputy headteacher and Charlotte works three days a week as primary school teacher. Having already experienced the strong sense of community in their previous Bovis home at Burfield Grange they were excited to see this same spirit starting to appear at Liberty Place. Paul explains: “There are already the green shoots of a great community here. People are friendly, and we bump into neighbours when we’re out walking the dog. We are excited to feel the sense of community grow because we know that it will.”
Beyond the development itself, the location is another huge draw for the family. Liberty Place is set at the foot of the marshes, with the Site of Specific Scientific Interest right on the doorstep. Paul shares: “The road is called Marshfoot Lane for a reason. We’re literally at the foot of the marshes. It’s such a peaceful place to live, surrounded by wetlands and wildlife. We love going for walks with Fergus and Lola. I put Fergus in my child carrier backpack, and we head out for a long walk together. Lola loves swimming in the rivers, and she’s always happiest when we are walking across the levels.”
The Pevensey Levels is an open, expansive landscape of grazed wet meadows, crisscrossed by reed filled ditches. This windswept landscape with few trees and hedges is framed against the dramatic backdrop of the South Downs. Pevensey Levels is the largest wetland tract in East Sussex and is of international importance for wildlife, having RAMSAR status. The dynamic landscape of the Levels is very young in geological terms, with its formation being dominated by the changing relationship between land and sea. The Levels also host unique habitats, including reed-filled waterways, lagoons, and vegetated shingle. The landscape's few settlements are scattered on higher ground, with roads raised above the land.
The nearby countryside also offers plenty of opportunities for cycling and outdoor adventures, making it ideal for active families. Paul comments: “We are so lucky to have all these green spaces to explore right on our doorstep. It feels like we’re living in the countryside, but we’re still really close to everything we need.”
Liberty Place is just a short 10-minute walk from Hailsham town centre, which has all the necessary amenities, including a Tesco, Waitrose, and even a charming independent cinema. Paul continues: “We love that we’re so close to the town. Charlotte often takes Fergus to rhyme time at the library, and we’re also near Hailsham Family Centre, which has tons of activities for families. It’s the perfect location for young families like ours.”
The couple is excited to take advantage of the nearby coast too. “We can’t wait for the weather to get warmer so we can start taking Fergus to the beach,” Paul says. “Normans Bay is just a 15-minute drive away, and Eastbourne is about 20 to 25 minutes away. It’ll be great for family beach trips, and we are sure that Lola will take full advantage of being able to swim in the sea. It brings us so much joy knowing that Fergus will create wonderful memories not just in the countryside, but by the sea as well.”
Additionally, Hailsham is well-connected by transport links. Polegate station is just a 10-minute drive away, with free on street parking. Paul explains: “As a season ticket holder for Brighton & Hove Albion, I love how easy the journey to Brighton is. It’s great to live in an area that perfectly suits my passion. I can’t wait for Fergus to come with me to a match when he’s a bit older. There’s also a really good bus service that goes to Brighton.”
The couple is also conveniently located near their parents. Charlotte’s family lives just 5 minutes away in Hailsham, and Paul’s family is in nearby Seaford. “It’s so nice to be close to both our parents,” Paul says. “They can pop over easily to visit, and we love the idea of Fergus growing up with his grandparents nearby.”
For Paul and Charlotte, Liberty Place is more than just a house, it’s the perfect location for their family to thrive. With spacious homes, a friendly community, and an unbeatable location, they feel they’ve truly found their forever home.
“This is the perfect place for us,” Paul says. “We’re so excited for the future here. We’ve got everything we need: beautiful green spaces, a spacious home, and all the amenities we could want. We’re looking forward to making more memories in this amazing area.”
