Wildflower seeds are being given out to people living in new homes built by housebuilder Vistry Group in a bid to support habitats that are vital to bees.
The scheme has been launched by Vistry’s Mercia region as part of the company’s commitment to wildlife conservation.
New residents across Vistry locations in the region will receive packets of seeds, which the company hopes they will plant in their gardens.
Vistry, which builds developments under the Linden Homes and Bovis Homes brands, is aiming to encourage more diverse flora in the area which will help sustain habitats for the local bee population.
The campaign is being carried out in support of the Bumblebee Conservation Trust.
Vistry Group, which includes Bovis Homes, Linden Homes and Vistry Partnerships, puts a major focus on the natural environment when it plans and builds its developments.
To that end, it has included a range of wildlife-friendly features over the years, such as bug and bee hotels, swift and bat bricks, and hedgehog ‘highways’.
Freya Halsall, marketing manager for Vistry Mercia, said: “Vistry Group is extremely conscious of its environmental responsibilities, and we understand the importance of sustaining and supporting wildlife at our developments.
“That’s why we came up with the idea of giving out wildflower seeds to our new residents, giving them the opportunity to enjoy some beautiful wildflowers while providing much-needed habitats for the bees.
“It’s so important to look after the natural environment and at Vistry we put a major focus on making sure our developments include green spaces and that we retain trees and natural habitats as much as possible.
“We hope our wildflower seed gifts to residents will give a real boost to wildlife in the area.”
Vistry Mercia is based in Dunston, near Stafford, and is currently building at developments across Nottinghamshire, Staffordshire, Shropshire and Cheshire.
