Site manager Tom crowned Devon’s rising star at Exeter Property Awards

In his first 12 months as a site manager, Tom Jupp won a coveted NHBC Pride in the Job Quality Award for building homes of exceptional quality – and he’s just added to the trophy cabinet by winning the rising star category at the Exeter Property Awards.

Tom – who was a Royal Marine for six years, in the Yeovil Helicopter Force and in other areas including counter-terrorism and humanitarian aid – works for Vistry South West, which builds Bovis and Linden properties in the region.

He left his role in the Royal Marines as he had to stay away from home regularly and was missing his young daughter. Tom joined the housebuilder in September 2019 as a trainee and his strong work ethic and sharp eye for detail quickly stood out – leading to his promotion to assistant site manager.

Tom, 28, progressed to site manager last year and lives in Glastonbury with his partner and daughter. He commented: “I’m over the moon to be recognised as a rising star. I had a fantastic mentor when I started out – Gary French, site manager at Blackmore Meadows in Stalbridge – who’s won lots of quality awards and so I’ve been well taught!

“My Royal Marine background also proved to be a great foundation and I was surprised how transferable the skills were. You need to have high standards, leadership qualities, a strong work ethic, plus good time management and punctuality, so it’s been a brilliant move for me.

“I’m really passionate about housebuilding, it’s hard work but I absolutely love it and my team’s been a huge support.”

Gareth Neale, regional build director said: “Tom has an eye for detail and fully deserves this recognition. What he’s achieved in the last year is amazing, especially at such a young age. He really takes on board feedback and has built a brilliant team on site. I couldn’t think of a worthier candidate!”

The company was also a finalist in the best developer and best residential development category for Tithe Barn in Exeter and The Oaks in Chudleigh.
