Schoolchildren in Littleport asked to create drawings fit for a king

A housebuilder has challenged children at a school in the Cambridgeshire village of Littleport to create a drawing fit for a king.

Bovis Homes, which is building properties at its Quantum Fields location off Grange Lane in the village, has organised a drawing competition for Year 3 pupils at nearby Millfield Primary School to mark the coronation of King Charles III on Saturday 6 May.

The winning pupil will be presented with an annual family pass for the National Trust. The pass, which entitles a family to free visits to any of the 500-plus historic locations the charity looks after throughout the country.

Wendy Lee, headteacher at Millfield Primary School, said: “As part of spiritual, moral, social and cultural development, we promote the fundamental British values at Millfield Primary School and our curriculum supports the values of democracy and the rule of law. Learning about the coronation and our new king is an important aspect of British values and the history of our country.

“Our pupils are encouraged to regard people of all faiths, races and cultures with respect and tolerance. Participating in this competition has encouraged us to think about how important this occasion is and how we are playing a special part in history.

“It has also made us think about the diversity of our own community and we look forward to welcoming the new families and children moving to Quantum Fields into the communities of Littleport and Millfield Primary School.”

Laura Thomas, sales manager at Quantum Fields, said: “As a socially responsible housebuilder we very much see ourselves as part of the community.

“It is lovely to foster a relationship with Millfield Primary School because the homes we are building at Quantum Fields are so close to the school and lie within its catchment area. This means that children of people who move into our new homes may well become pupils there.

“We thought that the coronation of King Charles is the perfect opportunity to give the children the chance to depict how they view this momentous occasion in our nation’s history. This country is famous for its love of pomp and pageantry associated with the royal family, so it will be very interesting to see how it seen through the eyes of these young artists.

“We hope the National Trust pass will bring joy to the winner and their family who will be able to enjoy free visits to some of the fabulous buildings and gardens that make up the heritage of our land.”

Currently Bovis Homes at Quantum Fields offers a collection of 2, 3 & 4 bed homes from £270,000.
