New homes employee buys Bovis Homes property at Hampton Water

A Vistry Group employee has bought one of the company’s Bovis Homes properties at its Hampton Water location in Peterborough.

Joel Tedham, who has been an employee of Vistry East Midlands since July 2019, has bought the three-bedroom semi-detached Cypress property, having fallen in love with this house type back in 2020. He picked up the keys to his new home on Friday 14 October.

He said: “When I started working here, I adored the Cypress homes and set myself a goal to own one of these homes before I turned 30. I have officially turned 30 now and got my keys!”

Joel decided to move to Hampton Water to be closer to his work in Peterborough.

He said: “I previously rented a house in Oakham, Rutland, and decided that I wanted to cut down the daily commute.

“Peterborough also has lots to offer. It is a great area to invest your money and there are great transport links and schools.”

As an employee at Vistry East Midlands, Joel knows at first hand the quality of Bovis Homes properties and the benefits of buying a new-build home.

He said: “I have lots of trust in Bovis Homes properties especially because the site manager at Hampton Water has won a Pride in the Job Quality Award from the National House Building Council for the past two years for the quality of construction here.

“I did look at other sites, however, the houses didn’t meet my requirements and the build quality of Bovis Homes was so much better.

“Growing up, my dad would buy houses which he could do up. I lived in barn conversions and renovated properties. However, I much prefer a new-build myself as they are much more energy efficient and there are no hidden issues.

“There are many advantages to owning rather than renting, such as having security. Nobody can ask you to move out because it is yours and you own it.

“There is also a sense of achievement that comes with ownership, something that fills me with so much joy. I also love that I can customise my house however I would like and because it is a new build, it was great to also be able to choose the tiles and worktops, too.”

Joel wanted a three-bedroom house so that he had enough space for a walk-in wardrobe as well as a large bedroom. He also enjoys entertaining guests and was looking for somewhere with enough living space to do so.

He said: “The Cypress is a generous size, though I didn’t want a house that was too big, with it just being me. I viewed the Cypress when it was being showcased at Judith Gardens in Sawtry, and instantly knew it was perfect and somewhere I will not outgrow for a while.

“My favourite room is the master bedroom which I will be changing into a dressing room.

“The downstairs is very open plan, which is great for having friends over, and the kitchen is also large and big enough to entertain in.”

Hampton Water is located off Greenfield Way just over five miles from Peterborough city centre.

Joel said: “The location of Hampton Water is fantastic, as it is not too far from the city, but distant enough to be away from the traffic and noise.

“There are many local shops and schools nearby, and I also enjoy that it is very close to Vivacity gym, and my work.”
