Move to Cambridgeshire allows Jess to combine rural life and city gigs

The 31-year-old, who sings in South London band The Funky Waves, moved to Bovis Homes’ Quantum Fields location in Littleport with her three-year-old son George in June.

Jess grew up in the Norfolk village of Denver, and after George was born, she decided she wanted to move out of London, where she’d lived for 10 years, to bring him up in more rural surroundings.

Her new home at Quantum Fields is just a 15-minute drive from her family, while travelling back into London for gigs is straightforward, with direct trains from Cambridge or via the M11 by road. Jess has also been able to continue her career as a midwife with a new job based at the Cambridgeshire Community Services NHS Trust which is linked to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in King’s Lynn.

Jess said: “I wanted to give George a childhood like the one I had, in a rural area. As soon as he was born, I knew I wanted a quieter life, to move closer to my family and go somewhere where there were more options for spending time outdoors, with a good community and a range of great schools.

“I still travel back to London once or twice a month to perform in the band and the simple commute from Quantum Fields has helped me to continue singing. We formed The Funky Waves when I first moved to London and we have built ourselves a strong reputation. We performed with Lewis Capaldi at a gig in London in September last year.”

Jess bought a three-bedroom semi-detached Magnolia house at Quantum Fields, after selling the 1930s three-bedroom home she owned in Crystal Palace.

As well as working and singing, Jess had previously spent time renovating properties and renting them out through Airbnb.

Jess said: “I enjoyed the process of doing up homes and creating character for them, but I knew moving this time, I wanted to live somewhere where no work was needed – and this is how I ended up looking at new-build homes.

“I found out about Quantum Fields through an advertisement, and from that I researched the area to make sure there were nearby schools and a hospital for me to move to. From then I contacted the sales office, and the rest is history.

“I cannot fault the sales team. Scott and Beth were very accommodating from the start and answered any questions that I had.”

Now settled into life at Quantum Fields, Jess appreciates the thoughtful design and space of her new home and her rural surroundings.

She said: “The whole house is just so spacious, and I have storage available throughout. My favourite place is my garden – it is just so big and the French doors open straight from the open kitchen and dining room.

“I love living in an area that feels safe for my son and with more countryside and greenery around us.”
