Life-saving defibrillator installed at development in Essington thanks to residents and Bovis Homes

Residents at a development in the Staffordshire village of Essington joined forces with Bovis Homes to fund and install a defibrillator in their new neighbourhood.

The housebuilder hosted an event at The Steadings on Saturday (25 November) to celebrate the installation of the life-saving equipment, with the community invited to enjoy face painting, balloon modelling and street food.

The defibrillator cost a total of £1,900 with residents raising £950 and Bovis Homes donating a further £950. It has been installed on the outside of a garden wall in Aspen Road so it is accessible to anyone who might need it.

Resident Emma Ashleigh Grace, who helped to organise the fundraising for the device, said: “We are a very tight community here at The Steadings and it was brought up by another resident that there had been a defibrillator in the last place they lived at.

“We also have another family on the site whose little boy is living with a heart condition. As a community, we strongly agreed it was important to get a defibrillator installed as you never know when it might be needed to save a life.”

Fundraising started earlier this year with an Easter egg event for children, a raffle and a community bake. The community then approached Bovis Homes to ask for support.

Emma said: “Bovis Homes came onboard with us straight away. We are very grateful for their contribution as getting this installed on the development was very important to us all.”

Freya Halsall, marketing manager for Bovis Homes, said: “When we were first approached by Emma about getting the defibrillator, we knew this was a great cause and we were only too happy to get involved.

“Although we hope the defibrillator is not needed, it is wonderful to know this potentially life-saving equipment is now on hand for the community in Essington in the case of an emergency.

“We wanted to thank all the residents at The Steadings for their hard work in raising the money for the device.

“It was lovely to be able to host this event, which brought the new community at the development together to celebrate their achievement.”

Bovis Homes – which along with Linden Homes and Countryside Homes is part of Vistry Group – has built 230 homes at The Steadings, off Hobnock Road in Essington, with construction on site now complete.
