Homebuilder raises £14,000 for charity with golf day in Hampshire

A golf day organised by housebuilder Vistry Southern raised more than £14,000 for a charity dedicated to preventing suicide among young people.

The company held the fundraiser to help the national charity Papyrus Prevention of Young Suicide, which works to promote positive mental health and emotional wellbeing in young people.

Staff from Basingstoke-based Vistry Southern were joined by sub-contractors and supporters for the event, which took place at Old Thorns Hotel & Resort in Liphook.

The day started with a golf competition that took place in good weather and was rounded off with a drinks reception and dinner with a live band.

There were 23 teams taking part in the golf, enjoying drinks buggies along the way. Among the notable moments on the course was the company’s construction director Steve Ott achieving an Albatross – a three under par score.

During the evening event, Vistry Group forklift driver Marcus Nunes-Filho talked about his own personal journey and how vital the work of charities such as Papyrus is. He also emphasised the importance of having a supportive management team at work.

The evening reception included an auction and raffle with prizes donated by Vistry sub-contractors, hosted on stage by finance director Martyn Flood. There were also presentations from Vistry’s chosen charities Papyrus, and Marcus Nunes-Filho on behalf of his mother, Trophies were awarded, with the overall winners being the Private Rented Sector (PRS) team.

Dawnet McLaughlin, managing director of Vistry Southern, said: “This was our first ever charity golf day at Vistry Southern and it was an enormous success. The day was great fun but with a serious and important purpose at its heart.

“Some excellent golf was played and there was plenty to enjoy at a beautiful venue. Most importantly of all, we managed to raise thousands of pounds for Papyrus, Vistry Group’s chosen charity, which does great work in improving the mental health and wellbeing of young people.

“I’d like to thank everyone who made it such a memorable event by taking part, donating money, bidding on items, or providing prizes. We are particularly grateful for the support of our sub-contractors, who got involved in all aspects of the day and were terrific.”
