A former soldier who started his career in the construction industry as a labourer has been appointed as a regional build director at Vistry Group.
Andy Pearce, 41, has been promoted to the role at Vistry East Midlands, based at its headquarters in Peterborough, after joining Linden Homes as a production manager in 2015.
Vistry Group was formed in 2020 and incorporates Linden Homes, Bovis Homes and Vistry Partnerships.
Andy left school at 16 and spent six years in the Army with the Royal Engineers, after which he left and got a job as a labourer at a building site.
“I quickly moved from being a labourer to being a forklift truck driver, then within six months I had been offered the chance to be an assistant site manager,” said the married father-of-three, who lives in Stamford, Lincolnshire. “It was a very rapid progression, but it was one that I wanted and one that I was confident I had the skills to deliver on.
“Once again, I worked my way up the ladder quite quickly to production manager and joined Linden Homes seven years ago in that role. With the full support of my team and the senior management team at Vistry I have continued to progress.
“My role as regional build director at Vistry East Midlands puts me in charge of all 13 developments in our region. I am responsible for the management of all of these sites to ensure they deliver top-quality new homes, hit all business and construction targets, maintain the highest levels of health and safety and keep our customers happy.
“I can think of no better place to work than Vistry because the culture here is that they always have people’s best interests at heart – whether they be the employee or the customer. This chimes with my personal philosophy that you have people working with you, not for you, and that I make the effort to get to know everyone and treat them as I would want to be treated myself.
“These are exciting times at Vistry East Midlands as we are planning two new sites at Great Haddon and Grantham and are always on the look-out for new opportunities to deliver new homes in the area. My job is to ensure we retain our prized status as a five-star builder and continue to strive for more and more success.”
Vistry has a five-star rating with the Home Builders Federation, which means more than 90 per cent of customers have said they would recommend the housebuilder to a friend.
Fraser Hopes, managing director for Vistry East Midlands, said: “Throughout his career, Andy has come on leaps and bounds and met and surpassed every challenge he has been set. We had no hesitation in offering him the role as regional build director at Vistry East Midlands.
“Andy is a very talented leader who, we are confident, will inspire all of the teams at the sites throughout our region. His is a very influential and pivotal role and we know he will help bring yet more success to the company by delivering a standard of excellence throughout.”
