Andrew and Jo Rowsell are the first residents to move to Bovis Homes’ Woodlands development in Barrow Gurney.
Andrew, 78, and Jo, 66, have retired from their jobs as British Airways cabin crew and as a PA to a director. They’d lived in Taunton for 40 years, but after their parents passed away they decided to move nearer to their children and grandchildren to start a fresh chapter.
Speaking about their move, Jo commented: “Andrew and I are very excited to be the first residents at Woodlands. Our daughters live nearby and we wanted to be closer so we could help with our grandson and granddaughter.”
The couple has a son, who is in the Armed Forces and lives with them at weekends; a daughter who lives in Cheltenham; and another daughter who lives in Barrow Gurney and recommended the development to them.
Jo continued: “Having bought a new house years ago, we knew the benefits of having a finished home. There are so many hidden costs with older properties that can really add up and we wanted to enjoy our retirement, without having to spend it renovating. Once we’d set our hearts on a new home, we looked at all the developments in the area and Woodlands suited us perfectly.
“We bought our four bedroom Maple house in August and as soon as we saw its layout and position on site, we fell in love instantly. We’re lucky to have the woodland behind us and there’s a great open feeling to the development.
“We have enough space for the family to stay and there’s a lovely L-shaped kitchen and dining area perfect for entertaining. It also has a double garage and a good-sized driveway for when we have visitors. We’ve been really impressed with the overall quality and the whole house feels very spacious.”
In order to move quickly, the couple used a home-buying initiative designed to help. Jo said: “Smooth Move is a fantastic scheme. Bovis Homes basically helped to sell our home, paid the estate agent fees and really took the pressure off moving within a chain. Gemma, the sales consultant, and Zach at The New Homes Group were brilliant and guided us through the process.”
Jo added: “It feels amazing that it’s all worked out and we look forward to spending our retirement in such a picturesque location. It’s a real comfort to know that we’re living in a new energy efficient house and we’re not going to be spending any spare time or money on renovations. It’s been a fantastic move for us and a really positive experience.”
