Family’s ‘forever home’ inspires popular Instagram account

New homeowner Mel Davies has turned her passion for interior design into a popular new Instagram account.

Mel, 28, her husband Lee, 31, and their one-year-old son Finn moved into their Bovis Homes property at Vistry Group’s Partridge Walk development in Stafford at the end of June.

At the beginning of September, Mel started her Instagram account @ourforevernumber7_ with the words ‘The start of our journey’ and a photo of the family outside their new home, a four-bedroom detached Juniper design.

Since creating the account, collaborations have developed, allowing Mel to promote an array of decor in their home.

Mel has used Instagram to showcase her elegant and neutral styling, posting images of different rooms in the house, focusing on design details and the overall look. ‘Dreamy’ and ‘amazing’ are just some of the comments made.

“This is the first interiors account I’ve done,” she said. “People comment and say they love the house and love the style. I love a classically neutral theme.”

The pictures show a calm and light colour scheme throughout. Among the styling features she loves, and which have prompted admiring comments from friends and family who have visited, are an eye-catching extra-tall headboard in the main bedroom and an impressive dining table made of reclaimed wood.

Her favourite room is the kitchen/dining/family room, which has bifold doors leading out onto the garden.

Mel said: “We love the bifold doors, they bring the outside in and are great for entertaining.”

Mel works as a nurse at County Hospital in Stafford while Lee is a gas engineer. They have found that the house works brilliantly for their family life. The location makes for an easy commute to work for them both and they were previously living nearby, so they knew that the area would work for them.

When they started thinking about moving home, they were determined it would be a four-bedroom property and were keen to buy a new-build.

“It’s the efficiency of it,” Mel said. “You haven’t got to do anything to it if you don’t want to. We did consider older houses but when we looked at them, nothing compared to this.”

In fact, once they saw the Juniper house style, it didn’t take long for the couple to fall in love with it.

Mel explained: “We visited a showhome on a different development and we immediately fell in love! We loved the kitchen. We walked in and it was really big and spacious. And the showhomes show you the potential. I’m really fussy about my style but I loved this.”

The couple’s previous home was a three-bedroom new-build house, which they bought six years ago. They thought about moving for around six months before they put their plans into action, and the main priority when seeking their new place was to find somewhere with plenty of space.

Mel said: “We wanted something bigger, and we wanted more storage. Our old house was small, and we wanted more space, especially with having a baby.

“We have plenty of storage here and Finn has his own room which is spacious.

“Our garden is south facing giving us full days of sun in the summer months. We love how big the windows are, giving a bright and airy feel to each room.”

With Cannock Chase a short drive away for walks with their cocker spaniel Marley and for Lee’s cycling training, the town centre within easy reach, baby groups, and plenty of pubs, cafes, and restaurants nearby, the couple have everything they need for daily life on the doorstep.

Mel has recommended both the house quality and the development as a whole to people, and at least one of her friends is giving some serious consideration to moving to a Bovis Homes property, after seeing Mel and Lee’s home.

The couple themselves couldn’t be happier with their choice.

Mel said: “We were really excited to get the keys. We were so proud, we can’t believe it’s ours, though people remind us that we have worked so hard for it. Seeing the house and walking through the door is still exciting, even more so now we are decorating. It’s our safe place, a place where there’s no stress at the end of a hard day at work.”

In fact, the couple don’t think they will ever want to move out of it.

“We always call this our forever home,” said Mel. “We want to grow our family here. We want to retire here. That’s why it was so important to find the right place.”
