Congresbury War Memorial Hall gets a welcome boost

A local housebuilder has donated £1,000 to the 102 year old Congresbury War Memorial Hall.

Bovis Homes is creating new homes off Wrington Lane and pledged the money after hearing the High Street building was in need of repairs.

Congresbury War Memorial Hall was unveiled on 7th December 1920 and features plaques dedicated to those who lost their lives during WWI and WWll. The hall supports a number of community groups and activities including the Congresbury Singers, Weston brass band room, Morris dancing, badminton, skittles, snooker room, bingo and zumba – to name a few.

Sally Westlake from Congresbury War Memorial Hall commented: “It’s a fantastic facility for the local community but sadly a few areas of the building were in desperate need of love and attention.

“We’re incredibly grateful to Bovis Homes for the donation and we’ve put the money towards some key repairs, including the replacement of the leaking roof and ceiling in the skittles alley.”

Natasha Palmer, area sales director at Bovis Homes, said: “Congresbury was once dubbed the kindest village in the UK – after the community showed many acts of kindness – and we’re pleased to support such a wonderful place. Having a central village hall is so important and the huge list of clubs it houses shows the impact it has on residents’ lives.

“From birthday parties to folk nights and book sales, Congresbury War Memorial Hall is a real hub for the local community and we’re delighted to support the fantastic facility.”

Bovis Homes helps many community initiatives near to its developments and is creating three, four and five bedroom homes locally at St Congar’s Place.
