Bovis Homes supports local visually impaired sports stars

Bovis Homes has provided a much-needed donation to the Blackburn Bullets Goalball team, aiming to tackle social isolation and keep visually impaired locals moving.

Goalball is a fast-paced indoor sport designed specifically for visually impaired athletes, where players use their senses to track a ball embedded with bells. The contribution, made on behalf of Bovis Homes’ nearby Sunnybower Meadow development, will fund specialised transport to bring players from across Lancashire to weekly training sessions.

The donation is part of Bovis Homes’ commitment to creating inclusive, supportive communities around its developments. This forms part of its Summer of Sport campaign, which is seeing the five-star housebuilder support several grassroots sports clubs across the North West to coincide with the calendar of major sporting events this summer.

Mohammed Salim Patel, Chair of Blackburn Blind Sports Club, commented: “It is superb to see a local housebuilder supporting local organisations and we are delighted that they have chosen to support us. So many blind people across Lancashire are facing isolation and have nowhere to go to play inclusive sports every week. Thanks to this donation from Bovis Homes, we will be able to get blind people to our weekly Goalball sessions. Transport is the biggest barrier for blind people, but Bovis Homes has removed that barrier.”

Sunnybower Meadow is Bovis Homes’ flagship Blackburn development on Whalley Old Road. It has a range of three and four-bedroom homes available from £257,000.

Zac Worthington, Operations Director at Vistry Merseyside and Cheshire West, commented: “Our Summer of Sport campaign was designed to give back to the organisations that help our communities to stay active and connected. The Blackburn Bullets carry out incredible work breaking down barriers for visually impaired athletes in Lancashire. We hope our contribution helps to keep inspiring players and make the sport even more accessible.”
