A family affair: Three generations living at Longhedge Village

Some relatives have to spend hours in the car to see their loved ones, but fortunately that’s not the case for one family in Salisbury.

After Paula and Adrian Leonard set their sights on moving to Bovis Homes’ Longhedge Village development in Old Sarum, they were delighted their family followed suit!

Paula, 52, is a driving instructor and she recently married Adrian, 54, the publican at The Village Free House in Salisbury.

Commenting on their experience, Paula said: “Adrian and I had both owned homes previously but we’d sold through divorce. We’d been renting a three storey property in Old Sarum but we wanted to buy our first home together, with space for my children and Adrian’s children to stay too.

“We’ve actually been Bovis Homes customers for three years! We reserved before the pandemic but as we’re self-employed we couldn’t obtain a mortgage while on furlough, so we lost the property. We really wanted to move to Longhedge Village and my daughter was keen to settle near us as she has chronic fatigue. Plus, we wanted them close so we could spend lots of time with our gorgeous grandson!”

Paula has two daughters: Bethany is 23 and lives with her boyfriend, and Eloise and her fiancé Chris have a son called Theo, who’s almost two years old. Eloise and Chris moved to a three bedroom detached Linden property at the same development in August 2021, with great views over the country park.

Fortunately, Paula and Adrian were able to secure a mortgage once the restrictions eased and they bought a three bedroom Cypress home in March, thanks to the Home Reach scheme.

She added: “We couldn’t be happier, we’ve secured the space we need and the whole development has a lovely community feel that’s very neighbourly, it’s just a really nice place to live. There’s a country park which our grandson loves and the quiet, open fields are perfect for walks with our two dogs: Milo, a Bichon Frise and Toby, a Shih Tzu Terrier.

“We absolutely love our home, it has a fantastic open plan kitchen and dining area. It’s a real social nook, where we can eat breakfast, watch TV and relax together.

“We like that everything is new and you can put your own mark on the house. We’ve been in the garden putting our stamp on things and we’ve enjoyed decorating throughout. Chris is a painter and decorator, so I’ve had a great time with the interior design: planning how to use the space, ordering new furniture and creating mood boards with fabric samples and floor plans – I’ve been in my element!

“It's also been a good investment for us. Our previous home was quite cold in the winter so we’ve been impressed how much warmer our new home has been and we’re delighted that our mortgage is now less than our rent.”

After moving in March 2023 and getting married in September 2022, there’s been a lot of change. Paula said: “I also overcame breast cancer in October, after successful treatment, so it’s definitely been a journey for us and it’s lovely to finally be settled.

“Nic, the sales consultant, has been amazing and it’s wonderful to think I’m surrounded by my family. We can walk from our house to theirs in five minutes, so we’re very lucky, especially as Theo is young and we look after him while Eloise is at work. We’re all happy and I couldn’t ask for more.”
