After learning that he had a rare genetic disease, Keith Jones knew that buying his own house was going to be a challenge, but after visiting the Bovis Homes sales centre in Shifnal, he realised he would be in good hands.

Keith suffers from a rare disorder called pompe disease, which causes progressive muscle weakness throughout the body and affects various body tissues.

After discovering a special mortgage scheme for people with long-term disabilities, he hoped that buying his own home would be within reach – however, initially this proved not to be the case.

“When I was searching for a house, I was often dismissed straight away as they hadn't heard of the type of mortgage I had lined-up,” says Keith. “As it was unknown to them, they weren't interested. This was completely different when I walked into the Bovis Homes sales centre.

“Amanda, the sales advisor at Iddeshale Gardens, was so patient and although she had never heard of the mortgage, she spent time finding out more about it and then what seemed the impossible, became possible.”

Due to his condition, Keith had to consider what future requirements he may need in his home and discussed these with Amanda.

“My mobility will start to deteriorate over time, so I had to think about adaptations which would need to be made to the home. The Sheringham house type was perfect – it had a straight staircase so I could add a stair lift in when I need it. The rooms were spacious and open too,” says Keith. “Amanda called me one day to say one had come back on the market – so I had a look straight away.”

The three-bedroom Sheringham house type has an open-plan kitchen and dining area with French doors leading out into the garden and a separate sitting room. Upstairs, the master bedroom has a built-in wardrobe, en suite and boasts a feature bay window.

“I'm so grateful for the time the sales team put in and their patience and attentiveness really stood out.” says Keith. “As my mortgage wasn't straight forward there were some issues which had to be dealt with, but Bovis Homes were fantastic. They kept the house for me and I did really feel like someone was fighting my corner.”

Due to the complexities involved in the purchase, Amanda worked with a variety of organisations to keep the process moving.

“Keith was an absolute pleasure and joy to deal with,” she says, “There was a lot of work involved and a huge learning curve for me, but it was worth every minute. It's fantastic to see how happy he is now.”

Now firm friends, Amanda and Keith still see each other regularly for a catch-up.

“I've really settled into my home,” says Keith. “I'm eternally grateful for the work Amanda has done and I know this home will meet my needs for the rest of my days.”
