Steve lands top award for Bovis Homes at selby site

Selby-based Steve Uttley has been shortlisted from more than 13,000 site managers across the country to go forward and challenge for a major national building award.

Steve, 42, is in charge of Bovis Homes' Holmes Meadow development in Selby and is the only site manager in the town to have made it through to the regional finals of the NHBC (National House Building Council) Pride in the Job Awards.

He has won a Quality Award in the prestigious large house builder category which puts him in the top 3% of site managers in the country - with the possibility of going even further in the competition.

To get this award Holmes Meadow has already faced a number of rigorous inspections by NHBC specialists looking at the quality of the homes being built and the presentation of the site in general.

"We've got an excellent team spirit on site, with many of the workers coming from in and around Selby," said Steve. "We probably ask a little bit more of them than other housebuilders would, but they are all pulling together and looking out for one another to make sure we are producing high quality homes.

"We've also been receiving excellent responses from customers and the housing association we have been building for so it is great to get this feedback and know that we are getting it right."

Holmes Meadow will be a mix of 301 new homes, ranging from apartments to larger family homes. Since work on the first show home started last April more than 30 new homes have been complete with a high level of interest from local buyers.

Steve, who is supported in his work by Bovis Homes colleagues Stephen Jones (assistant site manager) and Phil Hickman (materials controller), will now go to the regional finals at York racecourse in September.

Iain Fleming, Bovis Homes Regional Building Director, said: "The Pride in the job awards competition is dedicated to recognising site managers who achieve the highest standards in house building and it is the highest accolade within the industry a site manager can achieve.

"It represents a great success for Steve and his Selby team, as well as benefiting customers who buy a Pride in the Job award-winning home."

Isabel Hudson, Executive Chairman of NHBC, said: "This is the only UK-wide competition that is dedicated to, and directly recognises, site managers who demonstrate commitment to achieving high standards in house building. It has been extremely successful over the years in promoting and encouraging best practice on site.

"Highly regarded within the industry, winners earn the true respect of their peers. Anyone gaining a Quality award is already in the top three percent of their profession, and they can be very proud of their achievement."
