Cambourne Eagles soar into new season with Bovis Homes

08 October 2011

The young players of the Cambourne Eagles are will be wearing some impressive new kit to kick off the new football season - thanks to a £750 sponsorship deal from house builder Bovis Homes.

The money has paid for new kit for the Eagles' three Under 8s teams who this month started their football careers in the Cambridgeshire Mini League.

Each of the 24 young players now proudly don smart new white football shorts, socks and red football shirts featuring the Bovis Homes logo for each of their Saturday games, some of which are played at their home ground at Back Lane, Great Cambourne.

And as a thank you for the sponsorship Cambourne Eagles has dedicated the Bovis Homes Cup in the company's honour. The Cup for Endeavour is an annual trophy that is presented to the junior player who has shown most commitment throughout the season. This includes encouraging others, working hard both individually and as a team player and representing the Cambourne Eagles in a positive way. This summer the Cup winner was 9-year-old Josh Day who played for the Under 9s squad.

Club Secretary Tracey Ashford, whose son Matthew plays in the Under 12s Eagles team, said: "The sponsorship from Bovis Homes was a Godsend for the Under 8s teams. We have five new teams who have started with the Cambourne Eagles this season and without this funding we just wouldn't have been able to kit them all out. It has really helped us and we are very grateful for the company's support."

The Cambourne Eagles was launched in 2006 and is run by volunteers, mostly parents whose children play in one of the eight teams. As well as the three Under 8s teams, there is an Under 9s, an Under 10s, Under 12s, Under 15s and an Under 20s that now plays in an adult league.

Tracey said: "Cambourne Eagles is a real community club with many parents and children involved and as well as all the positive benefits of training and playing football it also acts as a great social focus."

Bovis Homes Sales Advisor at Cambourne Kim Holland, said: "As a major house builder here at Cambourne it's important we support the community in which we are building. This sponsorship is benefitting both the children and the volunteer parents who are doing great work with the Cambourne Eagles and we wish both players and managers all the very best for the new season."
