Officials from Range Rovers FC in Minster say a £750 sponsorship deal from house builder Bovis Homes has proved vital in helping support the club in today's tough economic climate.
Assistant Club Secretary Chris James says the volunteer-run club on the Isle of Sheppey is entirely self-financing and has found it hard to find organisations and businesses to come in and sponsor their 14 teams.
Many of the teams use second-hand shirts and shorts passed down from older players, but the sponsorship by Bovis Homes has enabled the Range Rovers' Under 15s to kick off the 2011/12 season in some impressive new black and blue kit.
Chris said: "The club was started back in 1997 and has always been successful in securing funding and sponsorship from local businesses, contacts through parents and grants from the voluntary sector. But we're really feeling the effects of today's climate. We are always very thankful for support, but in these tough times any sponsorship such as the Bovis Homes donation is all the more appreciated."
The Under 15s play at Seager Road and are currently mid-table in Division 2 of the Express Cabs Maidstone Boys Primary League, with matches played every Sunday afternoon against teams in the North Kent area.
Chris said: "The club is run by volunteers, often parents and for the first time in our history we have two new adult teams made up of founder members and ex-youth players who still want to play for Range Rovers. It is a very friendly, popular club for the community and sponsorship is an important part of our future, so we are very thankful for the support of Bovis Homes and our other sponsors this season."
Range Rovers runs a soccer school for Minster's four and five-year-olds and the youngest league team is the Under 7s. The Club uses four football pitches on the island, the main one being in Range Road in Eastchurch.
Bovis Homes Team Leader Caron Hutchins, at Abbey Place, Minster, said: "As a major developer here in Minster it's important we support the community in which we're building. This sponsorship is benefitting both children, young people and the volunteer parents from Range Rovers who are doing a great job in running the Club and providing a service to the community. We wish both the players and managers all the very best this season."
