Vistry to train on green agenda as first housebuilder to partner with international body
27 Oct 2021

Staff at a national housebuilder will benefit from extra sustainability education as the company commits to environmental best practice by being the first in the industry to join a special corporate partnership. Vistry Group is now a corporate partner and approved training centre of international body the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA), which offers training and qualifications on sustainability, to contribute towards a net zero economy. As an IEMA registered training centre, Vistry can provide high standards of quality assurance and training on environmental management. Vistry has recently committed to setting a science-based target for reductions in its greenhouse gas emissions. The company is one of the first national housebuilders to start the delivery of homes with net zero regulated carbon emissions ?" at its Leamington Spa development in Warwickshire. Amit Patel, group environmental manager at Vistry, said: “Vistry is delighted to be the first housebuilder to become a corporate member of the IEMA and an approved training centre. We are looking forward to the future as we work to deliver zero carbon homes and this membership will encourage our staff to be trained in new areas as sustainability leads how we think and operate. “Vistry will implement virtual and physical training sessions through the IEMA at our offices, placing us in the best possible position to meet our sustainability goals and drive the industry towards an environmentally-friendly focussed future.” Vistry will also link executive remuneration to sustainability targets from next year and the housebuilder is committed to reducing its greenhouse gas emissions in line with limiting warming to 1.5oC. IEMA courses include environmental sustainability skills for the workforce and managers, a foundation certificate in environmental management and the body also holds half-day sessions including on leading with environmental sustainability. James Hyde, corporate partnership officer at IEMA, said: “Vistry linking up to IEMA as a corporate partner and training centre is of huge benefit to us, the housebuilder and the industry. We’re committed to supporting, encouraging, and improving the confidence and performance of Vistry and all our corporate partners, and believe that together we can change perceptions and attitudes about the relevance and vital importance of sustainability as a progressive force for good.” IEMA is the international membership body for environmental and sustainability professionals, with active members in over 116 countries.
