Student benefits from summer work placement with Bovis

Vistry Group has helped to nurture the career of a student in the construction industry through a short-term summer placement scheme.

Taylor Bradley, 22, has recently completed a three-month placement with Vistry Eastern, working in the region’s marketing department at its headquarters in Chelmsford.

Taylor is currently studying business and marketing at Hertfordshire University, having previously studied enterprise and entrepreneurship at college, and is due to graduate in September 2023. He decided to gain some extra work experience in his chosen career path of marketing, before completing his degree.

He said: “I decided to do a placement over the summer because I know how important it is to have experience on your CV as well as grades. A lot of marketing companies require experience before offering you an interview, even at entry-level. So, taking the time over the summer to increase my experience, should increase my chances of being hired once I graduate.”

Taylor’s older brother Dominic English is currently an assistant site manager for Vistry Eastern, and Taylor accompanied him on site visits before requesting a placement with the housebuilder. He’s found the experience has been a highly valuable one.

“I have really enjoyed my placement here at Vistry Eastern – everyone has been friendly and welcoming,” he said. “This is my first time working in a professional environment, but the team here have put me at ease.

“I have been involved in many different jobs, such as joining PR meetings, updating the website, and doing HTML send-outs. My colleagues have made sure to make me feel like part of the team, always asking for my opinion on certain projects and listening to what I have to say. I really appreciate that they cared about my opinion.”

Once Taylor graduates in 2023, he hopes to return to Vistry Eastern after already forming a great bond with the team.

He continued: “Jason Colmer, the sales and marketing director for Vistry Eastern, has asked me to stay connected which I certainly will do. The team here have been fantastic, and I look forward to seeing what else is to come.”

Jason said: “As a company, we are focused on helping the next generation develop their careers within the construction industry and work placements are a great way to help do this.

“Placements not only provide the student with valuable work experience which will help them in their studies and in their futures, but also allow us to nurture their skills so they are relevant to the way the industry works.

“Taylor has been a real asset to the team over the summer and we’d like to wish him all the best for his studies as he works towards gaining his degree this year.”
