Site manager Peter wins major award for first time after joining national housebuilder

A delighted site manager in Cambridgeshire has won a major industry accolade for the first time in his 25 year career – less than 18 months since joining a national housebuilder.

Peter Sykes, site manager at Bovis Homes’ Lunar Park location in West Cambourne, received the National House Building Council (NHBC) Pride in the Job Seal of Excellence, which recognises the highest industry standards across all areas of site management. It follows his Pride in the Job Quality Award win earlier this year.

Seals of Excellences are presented to the best Quality Award winners, which are the top site managers chosen from more than 8,000 site managers across the country. This is the first time Peter, who joined Vistry Group 15 months ago, has won a Seal of Excellence and adds to his previous two Quality Awards.

Vistry – which includes brand Bovis Homes – has received its highest number of Quality Award winners this year – with 29 site managers from across the country picking up the Pride in the Job accolade.

Peter said: “"I and my team are elated with this prestigious accolade and all the support that Vistry provides, from all the departments including our head office, the site sales team and of course our great contactors. We all look forward to the coming months and years with Vistry and will strive to keep achieving personally, for the company and, most importantly, for our customers.”

Just 443 inspirational site managers from an initial pool of over 8,000 were chosen to receive a Quality Award this year. As well as taking part in spot checks on the day-to-day running of the sites, each candidate is assessed across 38 aspects of site management, including their technical knowledge, consistency in the build process and the quality controls they have in place.

Andrew Bloxham, divisional managing director at Vistry, said: “I would like to congratulate Peter on his incredible success of winning an NHBC Seal of Excellence at Lunar Park in Cambridgeshire. This award shows his tireless work and dedication to delivering high quality homes for our customers in West Cambourne. It is great that Peter has been recognised with such a prestigious award and we at Vistry are very proud of his achievements.”

Pride in the Job, first launched more than forty years ago, is the most highly regarded competition in the housebuilding industry. Judging for the awards is rigorous, with each site manager assessed across areas including consistency, attention to detail, leadership, interpretation of drawings and specifications, technical expertise, and health and safety. Thousands of site inspections and meticulous scoring and verification have taken place to decide the winners. The competition celebrates the vital role they play in ensuring new homes are delivered on time, on safe sites and to exacting construction quality standards.

Steve Wood, NHBC chief executive, said: “Winning site managers tell us that it inspires them to give a little extra and to strive harder for ever-higher standards in housebuilding.

“At NHBC we believe that the calibre of the site manager and the way they inspire their site team has the greatest influence on the quality of the finished home. By promoting friendly rivalry, showcasing best practice and rewarding excellence, Pride in the Job supports the delivery of homes of the highest quality.”
