Year 6 pupils at Oundle CE Primary School learned about conservation with help from Vistry Group, which is building new Bovis Homes properties nearby.
The housebuilder donated 60 litter pickers to the school, which is opposite its Cotterstock Meadows development off Cotterstock Road.
The equipment was used by Year 6 during the school’s spirituality day earlier this term, when they learned about caring for themselves and the planet.
Each year group was provided with a different theme to focus on for the day, with Year 1 learning about caring for yourself, Years 2 and 3 about plastic in the ocean, Years 4 and 5 about global warming, and Year 6 about conservation.
The Year 6 group were taught to protect wildlife through techniques such as litter picking, with the donated litter pickers helping make the day more interactive.
Athina Gibbons, a Year 1 teacher who helped to organise the event, said: “The donation has been really helpful.
“It meant that the children had a high-quality, educational and enriching day. Rather than just learning about conservation and protecting our local wildlife, they got to get involved with the donated litter pickers.
“The donation helped to make the day much more memorable, and we are very grateful.”
Hannah Dorner, Senior Sales Manager for Cotterstock Meadows, said: “We have worked with Oundle CE Primary School since starting work at Cotterstock Meadows, as part of our support for the local community in the town. Children at the school chose the name for our development and we provided book vouchers to help the school extend its library collection as a thank you.
“We were therefore pleased to support the school’s spirituality day and help the pupils learn about helping to keep the environment safe for wildlife by keeping it litter-free.”
