Vistry Group sponsors Reading kickboxing team for World Championships

Six talented kickboxing students are set to compete in the WKU World Championships this month (October) with support from Vistry Group.

The housebuilder’s Southern region, which is based in Basingstoke, has donated £300 to Reading-based Nemesis Martial Arts & Fitness to help fund a team of 10 to 15-year-olds taking part in the week-long competition in Cardiff.

The championships start on Sunday 23 October at the Sport Wales National Centre and will be the first time the event has been held in the UK since 2014.

One of the group is 11-year-old Akaaldeep Singh Kalsi, whose dad Jag Singh Kalsi has worked as a financial planning and analysis accountant for Vistry Southern for the past two years.

Jag said: “This event is like the World Cup of kickboxing, so as you can imagine all the children are incredibly excited to go.

“However, without the funding from Vistry and others who have donated, this trip wouldn’t be possible and the children who have trained so hard for years wouldn’t be able to go. We are all so incredibly appreciative of the support everyone has given so far.

“The money raised will help towards the cost of accommodation, food and travel expenses for all the pupils attending the contest. This life-changing opportunity wouldn’t be possible for them without everyone’s generosity.”

Nemesis Martial Arts & Fitness provides martial arts classes for both children and adults as well as fitness sessions across Reading.

Jag added: “The club is crucial part of our local community – it provides a safe environment for young people and teaches them the importance of discipline and self-confidence. It has always been about keeping kids on the right track.

“I’m over the moon that Vistry is helping us get closer to our fundraising target. It is a wonderful company to work for and everyone is lovely. For most of my life, I have worked in the building sector, but this is the first time my place of work has gone above and beyond for me.”

Dawnet McLaughlin, managing director of Vistry Southern, said: “We are pleased to be able to support Nemesis Martial Arts & Fitness and the six talented children selected for the World Championships.

“We at Vistry pride ourselves in putting our communities and people first. Our staff hold closely shared values, and we will always continue to assist and support their endeavours – especially ones that are as important as this one.”
