Vistry employee and friends take on Three Peaks challenge
A Vistry employee and friends have completed a three-day challenge scaling the highest peaks in England, Scotland and Wales to raise money for Great Ormond Street Hospital children’s charity. The team of nine climbed Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon between Tuesday and Thursday (10 to 12 May) and raised £2,790 in sponsorship to date ?" more than double their initial £1,000 target. Donations are still open until 31st May. One of the team was Vistry Eastern’s assistant technical coordinator, Thomas Ryan-McGann, who’s based at the company’s regional headquarters in Chelmsford. Thomas said: “I am quite a sporty person and have completed a mountain marathon Charity event before across the Lake District so I was quite confident this would be achievable for me. I prepared myself for the challenge by keeping fit and getting on the treadmill. “This was an amazing opportunity to do something totally different and challenging whilst raising money for a great cause! This was quite a gruelling challenge at times, but we all managed to battle through whatever elements the peaks had to throw at us including snow, hail, wind, and rain! I would just like to thank everyone for their support and donations, and a massive shout out to the three peaks gang that took part that helped keep me motivated and going when I was near breaking point.” Great Ormond Street Hospital treats children with complex illnesses, with more than 600 children and young people arriving each day from across the UK for life-changing treatments. Thomas said: “Great Ormond Street Hospital charity is a great cause that works incredibly hard to help young people. Their service is so important so I am happy to help them in any way I can.” Each year Vistry employees are offered time to take part in volunteering work which Thomas was able to use for the Three Peaks challenge. He also thanked his colleagues who have donated and encouraged him along the way.
