Gary with new son Finley
It has been an eventful month for site manager Gary French at Bovis Homes' Mildenhall development in Sherborne.
Shortly after celebrating the successful launch of the new homes location, he and his team learnt that they had won a national award recognising the site's high standards of health and safety.
And the celebrations didn't end there for Gary, who had also welcomed his new son Finley into the world just days before!
Beating off competition from over 100 developments across the country, Mildenhall secured the top health and safety accolade at the home builder's own annual awards ceremony held near Cirencester.
“We were thrilled to have received the award,” says Gary, who has worked for Bovis Homes for three years. “We've worked hard to go that extra mile and ensure that everyone on site is working in a safe environment.
“It's actually been a bit of a crazy month,” he adds. “It all seemed to happen at once! My wife, Clair, gave birth to our third child, Finley, just two days before Mildenhall was launched, which wasn't the best timing!”
Roger Morton, Head of Talent at Bovis Homes, was full of praise for Gary's management of the Sherborne site. “Mildenhall had an excellent site set-up and health and safety was at the forefront,” he says. “Innovation in the compound, genuine vision about what is ahead and exacting standards characterise this site, and we were delighted to have had the chance to recognise the work and commitment Gary and the rest of the team put in.”

Having been a runner-up in a previous awards ceremony, Gary, who has worked in the construction industry for 20 years, had his eye on the top prize this year.
“Prior to working at Mildenhall, I was the site manager at a development in Wokingham, Berkshire and while there I just missed out on winning the award,” says Gary. “I was keen to use my previous experience and put my all into winning it this year.”
Gary, Clair and their children, Ellisia (11), Harry (7) and Finley moved to Yeovil last year.
“My family and I decided to relocate from Berkshire to the South West for a change of lifestyle and we're really enjoying it here,” he says. “I'm really proud of Mildenhall – we're creating a really impressive place to live. From the moment you drive in, it has a 'wow-factor' and I'm excited to see it come alive as people start to move in.”
The show home and sales centre at Mildenhall had a hugely successful opening at the start of the month, with more than 200 people attending the launch event. The exclusive new location, which include four, five and six-bedroom homes, has created a lot of interest in the local housing market.
