Getting around

The nearby A420 links Shrivenham to Swindon, 7 miles away, and Oxford 26 miles. The market town of Faringdon is only a 7 mile drive on the A420, while junction 15 of the M4, for London and Wales is only 8 miles away on the A420 and A419. Buses run daily on weekdays from Shrivenham to Oxford, Faringdon and Swindon. For air travel Bristol Airport is 58 miles away and Heathrow is 71 miles away.

A trip to the shops

In Shrivenham's bustling High Street you'll find essential services including a post office, a pharmacy and shops selling hardware, flowers, gifts and a community store that's open seven days a week. In Faringdon there's a Waitrose store and weekly markets and just 3 miles along the A420 there's a Sainsbury's supermarket. For serious shoppers the Swindon Designer Outlet offers more than 100 top brands such as John Lewis, Next and Superdry and the Swindon Orbital Shopping Park has more retail giants including M&S and Asda. The town centre offers many popular High Street brands together with a range of independent shops.

Taking time out

Shrivenham boasts a great range of leisure and sports clubs for all ages, some held at the pretty Memorial Hall. Relax in one of Shrivenham's three pubs, or stride out on a circular walk. Take in Britain's oldest chalk cut figure, the White Horse, dating back 3,000 years, or visit The North Wessex Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, just 5 miles away. You can watch the wildlife at the Coate Water Country Park, 7 miles away, and see the latest films at Swindon's Cineworld or Empire Cinemas. Swimmers and fitness fans can try the Oasis Leisure Centre and if you fancy a day 'at the beach' visit Cotswold Water Park.

Shrivenham's Church of England Primary School dates back to 1863 and caters for children from four to 11-year-olds. In the grounds of the school you'll find The Barn Kindergarten taking two to four-year-olds and an Out of School Club for primary pupils. For senior pupils Faringdon Community College with sixth form is a mixed comprehensive for 11 to 18-year-olds. The Pinewood School at nearby Bourton is an independent school for boys and girls aged from 3 to 13 years.
