The ancient St Oswald's Church is in the heart of the village which also has its own library, three pubs, a wine bar, as well as restaurants, takeaways and cafes. Malpas Sports Centre offers gym and fitness facilities and Malpas and District Sports Club offers football, cricket, bowls, tennis, snooker and pool for all ages. The village has two pre-schools and Malpas Alport is the village primary school catering for pupils aged from 4 to 11 years. In 2014 it was rated 'good' by Ofsted. For senior pupils the Bishop Heber High School on Chester Road, was rated 'outstanding' by Ofsted in 2011 and includes sixth form facilities.
