Flitwick is only five miles from junction 12 of the M1 motorway that links the town to Milton Keynes and the East Midlands to the north, and Luton, the M25 and London to the south. Buses connect the town to Bedford, which is about 14 miles north on the nearby A6. Luton can also be reached via either the A6 or the M1. Flitwick railway station runs regular services to Bedford, Luton, St Albans, London (Blackfriars), Gatwick and Brighton. For air travel Luton Airport is only 16 miles away.
A trip to the shops
Froghall Fields is less than a mile from Flitwick town centre which has a wide range of shops and services including a bank, weekly open-air market, convenience stores and a Tesco supermarket. The thriving town of Bedford has a mix of national chain stores and smaller independent stores with the Harpur Centre offering nearly 40 shops under one roof. In Luton, The Mall boasts 135 stores on two levels, while 15 miles away at Milton Keynes thecentre:MK boasts over 240 stores including leading brands and high street names, as well as restaurants and cafés.
Taking time out
Flitwick is a lively community with its own leisure centre, village hall, community centre, football and cricket teams, pubs and restaurants. Walking trails take in Flitwick Moor, a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), the River Flit and Flitwick Mill. At Mount Hill you'll find the earthwork remains of the town's 11th Century castle and moat. Flitwick Wood is a local nature reserve offering circular walks and wildlife and the 40 mile Greensand Cycleway passes at neighbouring Ampthill. Popular Woburn Safari Park is nearby offering animal-packed family fun, while Woburn Abbey, founded by Cistercian monks in 1145 is now a stately home that hosts live music concerts.
Flitwick has a number of schools for younger pupils with Templefield Lower School and Woodland Middle School, an Academy for those aged 9 to 13 years, being the closest to Froghall Fields. There is also Flitwick Lower School and Kingsmoor Lower School and for senior pupils Redborne Upper School and Community College at Ampthill offers education for 13 to 18 year olds. For higher education the University of Bedfordshire is about 14 miles away in Luton.
