Getting around

Bidford Leys is just off the B439 which leads to Stratford-upon-Avon, through Bidford-on-Avon, about 8 miles away or take the A46 north to Alcester, 5 miles away. Head east on the A46 for the M40, or go south for Evesham, 7 miles away. Take the A46 south and the A44 for the M5 junction 6 towards to the M50, or stay on the A46 for the M5 junction 9 for the M6. The A435 is just 4 miles away and links to the M42 at Junction 3, or it takes you direct to Birmingham which is 27 miles away. Trains run from Evesham railway station, 7 miles away, to London Paddington, Worcester and Oxford. For air travel Birmingham Airport is 30 miles away.

A trip to the shops

Bidford High Street has a range of local shops and services, including a newsagent's, pharmacy and a bank. Half a mile from Bidford Leys there is a Warner's Budgens supermarket. In nearby Alcester, you'll find a Waitrose supermarket and more local shops. Evesham, has a Saturday market and retail parks and its Country Park offers garden, home and fashion goods. Stratford-upon-Avon offers many independent shops as well as Marks & Spencer and Debenhams department stores. The Maybird Shopping Park is home to many retail giants and a Tesco superstore. For city shopping the Bullring, Birmingham has more than 160 shops.

Taking time out

The heart of 'old' Bidford is a conservation area with St Laurence Church dating back to the 13th century. Take a stroll or a boat trip along the gracious River Avon or relax at one of the three village pubs. Beside the 600-year old Bidford Bridge you can enjoy a picnic in the popular 26 acre, Big Meadow with its well-equipped play area and outdoor fitness zone. Bidford also has its own Gliding and Flying Club, plus golf and bowling clubs. Evesham, Alcester and Stratford-upon-Avon all have leisure centres and you can visit the world famous Royal Shakespeare Theatre in nearby Stratford-upon-Avon or the Art Deco Regal Cinema in Evesham. One of the UK's biggest outdoor markets is at Wellesbourne, just 14 miles away.

Education

Bidford-on-Avon Church of England Primary School takes pupils aged 4 to 11 years and is just one mile from Bidford Leys. For senior pupils Alcester Academy caters for 11 to 16-year-olds. The co-educational Alcester Grammar School and St Benedict's Catholic High School both have sixth form facilities. For further education there's South Worcestershire College in Evesham and Stratford College.

  • At the roundabout, take the A4538, Pershore Lane exit
  • Continue on the A4538 for about 2 miles

From M42 Junction 3

  • At the roundabout take the A435 south, Alcester Road exit
  • Continue on the A435 for about 11 miles
  • At the roundabout in Arrow take the 2nd exit onto the A46
  • At the next roundabout take the 1st exit onto B439, Salford Road
  • After a short distance, Bidford Leys can be found on the left hand side.
