ASTON CLINTON VILLAGE
Aston Clinton is believed to have been formed at the crossing of Akeman Street and Icknield Way in Roman times and is even mentioned in the Domesday Book. Nowadays, its rich heritage can be seen in the beautiful Parish Church of St Michael and All Angels, and the Anthony Hall in the centre of the village.
The village history is also inextricably linked with the iconic Aston Martin brand, having given part of its name in 1914 after successful test runs at the nearby Aston Hill Climb. Aston Clinton has all the modern amenities of a 21st century village served by many local services and sports and leisure clubs. It has a nursery, a primary school, a post office, a doctor's surgery, a pharmacy, dentist, vets, garden centre and a petrol station.
There are several pubs in the village and a football club, tennis grounds and a bowls club. The scenic Chiltern Forest Golf Club and Weston Turville Golf Club are both approximately two and a half miles away.
Aston Clinton Park is an ideal place for families to unwind with various play and sports areas, and a fitness trail. After letting off steam you can enjoy refreshments at 'Your Cafe in the Park' where muddy boots and dogs are welcome!
Aston Brook is close to The Chilterns, a naturally outstanding and beautiful area with superb scenery and ancient market towns and villages quietly tucked away amid rolling green countryside.
This stunning Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty offers 324 square miles of unspoilt hills and valleys, ancient woodlands and chalk-fed waters, opulent mansions and hillside hamlets, all waiting to be explored with boots, buggies, bikes or boats.
The Chilterns are shaped by centuries of country traditions and agriculture. Today the area is a fantastic place to live, or visit and prides itself on providing local products, including timber and the reintroduction of the Red Kite bird of prey between 1989 and 1994.
With 5 bus services running through the village, you are never too far from the other local towns and cities.
There are a wealth of places to visit and things to see in The Chilterns from its picture postcard villages and bustling market towns, to spectacular scenery, historic houses, welcoming pubs and peaceful picnic spots.
The 173-mile, circular Chilterns Cycleway is mainly signposted on roads and is a great way to see the area passing through four counties. There's also an adventure learning foundation, bike parks for off-road cycling, a Walking Festival and two National Trails. The Ridgeway and The Thames Path both criss-cross the area. There are local breweries, vineyards, peaceful nature reserves and many local museums detailing the Chilterns' history.
The River Thames and the Grand Union Canal both run through The Chilterns providing boating opportunities and Tring Reservoirs Nature Reserve is known as one of the best bird watching spots in southern England.
