Image for New community's first primary school officially opened by Invictus Games athlete, Mark Ormrod

Celebrated Invictus Games gold medal winner, motivational speaker and author, Mark Ormrod, and Sir Gary Streeter, Member of Parliament for South West Devon, joined local dignitaries, families and members of the Sherford Consortium, to officially open Sherford’s first primary school. To celebrate the official opening of Sherford Vale, Mark Ormrod unveiled a commemorative plaque, with Sir Gary Streeter MP also joining children to bury a time capsule at the school.

The new school represents a £6m investment into community infrastructure and has been funded by the Sherford Consortium – the partnership of award-winning homebuilders, Bovis Homes, Linden Homes and Taylor Wimpey – with £1m also pledged towards its creation by Devon County Council.

Marking a major milestone in the development of the new community, Sherford Vale opened its doors for the first time in September. More than 60 home hunters, from growing families to first-time buyers to downsizers, visited Bovis Homes’ Stadhampton location in Oxfordshire for the launch of the very first show home from the housebuilder’s brand-new collection.

A Haywards Heath couple, who lost their unborn child, are campaigning to raise money for a ‘wonderful’ Sussex-based charity that supports bereaved families.

Stuart Brooks who is an area sales manager at Bovis Homes, became aware of Oscar’s Wish Foundation after the loss of his son Jack last October, 20 weeks into his wife Samantha’s pregnancy.

Once home to ancient Stone Age communities, Sherford’s extensive history has been nationally recognised with the development securing a coveted nomination in the Current Archaeology Awards. Celebrating the projects and teams that have made an outstanding contribution to archaeology, Sherford has been nominated in the ‘Rescue Project of the Year’ awards category – and public voting is now open.

The ongoing archaeology work at Sherford is funded by the Sherford Consortium and is being carried out by leading archaeology and heritage practice Wessex Archaeology, alongside Devon County Council and consultants, AECOM.

Youngsters still laugh on the swings at the Big Meadow and narrowboats continue to pass down the River Avon - but the Warwickshire village I grew up in has gone through changes in the 20 years since I moved away.
