A taste of local life
Getting around
Shirehampton is on the west side of Bristol, offering excellent transport links in and out of the city and beyond. Mills Court is just off The Portway (A4), one of the main routes into Bristol and is close to a Park and Ride service for motorists that runs frequent bus services into the city centre.
The village has its own train station linking into the city's main line services and is an excellent location for accessing the M5 at Junctions 18 and 19. The M49, M32 and M4 motorway networks connect with the M5 and provide easy links to the Midlands, South Wales, London and the West Country. The city's coach station runs services to major UK towns and cities and for air travel Bristol International Airport is approximately 12 miles south of the city.
A trip to the shops
Shirehampton itself has a range of local shops including a butcher's, a village bakery, several newsagents, a High Street supermarket, plus pubs and takeaway food outlets. There are also a number of larger supermarkets within easy reach.
The Mall at Cribb's Causeway, the region's largest retail outlet, is around four miles away and offers extensive out-of-town shopping with more than 100 famous name retailers, restaurants and plenty of free parking. Bristol itself has a great range of shopping facilities and within the Broadmead area you'll find the exclusive Cabot Circus, Quakers Friars and The Galleries, between them offering more than 450 top name and independent stores, plus restaurants, cafes, a grand European-style piazza and a 13 screen Cinema De Lux.
Taking time out
Shirehampton enjoys an out-of-city location with a host of leisure and countryside amenities nearby. It has its own swimming pool and gym, the beautiful Shirehampton Golf Course and there is a host of community groups, clubs and classes run in the village.
Nearby attractions include the magnificent Blaise Castle Estate with parkland and folly castle; Ashton Court Estate, with its mansion and 850 acres of stunning landscapes and also the fascinating Kings Weston Roman Villa.
Bristol Harbour is a bustling area full of attractions, hotels, bars, restaurants, water sports and leisure pursuits. Other places of interest are Bristol Zoo Gardens in Clifton - the fifth oldest zoo in the world, the SS Great Britain, Explore@Bristol and each year the city hosts the stunning Bristol International Balloon Fiesta.
Education
Shirehampton has four primary schools within a mile of Mills Court and four senior schools within two miles, three of which offer sixth form facilities. The Oasis Academy for 11 to 18-year-olds is only a quarter of a mile away and for would-be graduates the city has two universities the University of the West of England and the University of Bristol.
