Getting to know our departments
It takes the contributions of a range of departments to design, build and sell a Bovis Home. To understand how we operate, here is a brief outline of what each department does:
Land
The home building process begins with the acquisition of suitable land. We buy land with and without planning permission to ensure we maximise the potential opportunities. Each regional office has its own land buying team to ensure comprehensive knowledge of the local market. In situations where the land doesn’t currently have planning permission (strategic land), the land team will work with our legal and technical departments to apply for outline planning consent.
Legal
Our legal team manages all of the Company’s legal transactions required to buy land and sell homes. They work closely with the land department on purchasing land and also with the technical department in adoption agreements. One of the main functions of the department is to assist our customers with the legal process of buying a new home. This involves preparing and exchanging contracts and managing legal completions.
Technical
Our technical department is involved with the design and planning of all of our new developments. The process starts with planning the layout of individual developments and concludes with the production of drawings and providing advice to our build teams. The technical team also co-ordinates planning applications to ensure we comply with relevant legislation.
Commercial
The commercial department is responsible for estimating the costs involved in all of our construction projects. The commercial team is also responsible for the tendering and subsequent purchasing of subcontractor services and materials. To ensure our developments are built to budget, the commercial team is also responsible for cost control.
Build
Throughout the UK we have a number of build teams who are responsible for managing the construction of our new homes. On each site we directly employ a small site management team who then co-ordinate our subcontracted trades (eg groundworks, bricklaying, plumbing and electrical). The site manager is responsible for ensuring that the construction quality and workmanship remains high. In performing their role, it is vital that the site team work to exacting health and safety standards and agreed project plans. Our site team also assists our customers in answering their queries and finally in demonstrating their new home.
Sales and Marketing
Our sales and marketing department has three key areas of responsibility - marketing, sales and interior design:
Marketing
The marketing team ensures that our product meets the needs and expectations of our customers. They are responsible for preparing campaigns and this normally begins with the design of the sales brochure. They also ensure that the development is advertised both online and in the local press. The marketing department also maintains a database of customer enquiries to ensure that all potential purchasers are contacted when new developments open.
Sales
For the customer, the key contact during the purchasing process is our dedicated sales manager. Each development has its own sales manager who has knowledge of the local market and can advise customers on the range of products we have available. The sales manager supports the customer from start to finish and ensures that the customer is kept up to date with ongoing work on their development.
Interior design
Our interior design team is responsible for creating an environment that enables our customers to imagine living in our new homes. The team decorates and furnishes our show homes to ensure our product is both contemporary and desirable.
Customer care
The Company’s commitment does not end when the customer receives the keys to their new home. To ensure satisfaction with our product, our customer care team supports our customers with a comprehensive aftersales service. A dedicated team of customer care technicians ensures that any problems experienced by customers are dealt with quickly and efficiently.
Finance
The finance department works with all of the other functions at varying times and is involved in activities such as land investment and cost control. They also provide the forecasting, budgeting and accounting functions for the region.
Partnership developments
Our partnership development team works closely with local councils and housing associations to develop affordable housing projects. These projects often involve the redevelopment of older housing estates to build new communities.
Business support functions
To ensure the smooth operation of our business, we also employ key personnel in various support functions. These support functions include:
- Accounts and Payroll
- Information technology
- Health and safety
- Human resources and Training
- Marketing and Graphic design
- Customer services
- Internal audit
- Catering
No matter which department you work in and how you contribute to our business, we believe that we can offer you a rewarding career with opportunities for personal and professional development in a friendly and enjoyable working environment.
